UNICEF - IRC invites young researchers to submit proposals 2011

The Innocenti Research Centre (IRC) in Florence (Italy) is the research arm of UNICEF. The IRC has invested in a new research programme and is currently seeking opportunities to broaden and deepen the scope of it research activities. The research proposal:
Applicants are expected to submit a research proposal in English of not more than 3.000 words (list of references to be added separately). The proposal should include:
- A title and an abstract (and obviously the name of the author)
- A research question and sub-questions;
- An assessment of the prior studies that addressed these questions and the intended contribution to be made by the proposed research project;
- A description of the methodology to be used including eventually a description of the data to be used in the research, an assessment on the availability of the data or the procedure to collect or obtain them;
- A research plan with a time plan and a description of the end-product of the research;
- The names of 2 researchers who are seen as leading scholars in the field of the research question(s);
- A budget is needed, if specific research costs are going to be encountered (no need to specify a budget for presentation of the study at conferences or for the fellowship itself);
- An indication of the persons’ availability for eventually accepting the fellowship in the period October 2011 – March 2012.
Applicants are requested to fill and submit electronically the P11 form available at http://www.unicef.org/about/employ/files/P11.doc) simultaneously with the research proposal and a short letter of motivation. No application will be considered if not all the documents are submitted before the deadline. The proposals should be submitted no later than 10 September 2011.

NED Grant 2011: For Grantseekers

Each year NED makes direct grants to hundreds of nongovernmental groups abroad working to ensure human rights, an independent media, the rule of law and to advance other democratic goals.
We encourage applications for financial support from activist organizations in diverse situations, such as transitional countries where the goal is democratic consolidation, authoritarian countries where the goals are liberalization, and the protection of human rights.
The next proposal deadline is October 7, 2011 for consideration at the January 13, 2012 Board Meeting.

NED Core Institutes

NED also makes grants to four American partners, commonly known as the “Core Institutes,” for work abroad to foster the growth of political parties, electoral processes and institutions, free trade unions, and free markets and business organizations.

Global Fund For Children Invite Fhoto and Video the biggest issue that adolescent girls face in your community

If you’re a budding photographer or filmmaker between the ages of 16 and 24, send us one photograph representing the biggest issue that adolescent girls face in your community, with a maximum 50-word description of the issue, and/or one 1-minute video telling us about the issue. All entries will be evaluated by our expert judge, and the top ones will be put on our Facebook page for our extensive Facebook network to vote on. The photographs and videos that receive the most “likes” will be the winners.

Winners:
The winners will get the opportunity for their work to be displayed at the global level. They will also get a chance to win a cash prize of up to $100!

Timeline:
  • August 15th – Contest begins
  • September 2nd – Last day for submission of entries 
  • September 6th – Top entries put on Facebook page. Voting begins. 
  • September 21st – Last day for voting. 
  • September 22nd – Winners are announced.

Theme:
The theme of Project Rise is “What is the biggest issue that adolescent girls face in your community?” In association with Global Fund for Children’s Grassroots Girls Initiative Fellowship, Project Rise is creating a platform for talented young people to speak up and help sensitize people around the world to the kinds of issues adolescent girls face in different regions of the world. We want to hear your voice through your art.

Submission process:
Each individual is allowed to send in one entry. The entry can be either one photograph, one video, or one photograph and one video. Multiple entries in the same category are not allowed. All you need to do is send your entries to globalfundforchildren@gmail.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it by 5:00 PM Eastern Time on Friday, September 2, 2011. We will send you a confirmatory email once we receive your entry.

Voting procedure:
If your entry is selected as one of the top entries, you will be informed by email and your entry will be put on The Global Fund for Children’s Facebook page. Our entire online network will be welcome to vote on the entries. You can also involve your own networks to vote on your entries.

General guidelines:
  • You must be between 16 to 24 years to enter the contest. 2)    All entries need to be submitted by email by 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time on September 2, 2011. You will receive a confirmatory email once we get your entry.
  • Multiple entries in the same category are NOT allowed. You may send in one photograph and/or one video. 
  • Each entry will first be evaluated by our expert judge, and the top entries from each category will be put up on Facebook for voting. 
  • You will be informed by email if your entry has been selected. 
  • Once the top entries are up on our Facebook page, we will put out a call to our entire network to cast their votes. 
  • A “like” is counted as one vote. A comment is not. 
  • Each person is allowed to vote for multiple entries. 
  • You are required to have a Facebook account to enter the contest.
  • The winners will be contacted by email. Please ensure that your email address is valid and in use.
  • There is no regional restriction on applications. People from all over the world in the age range of 16 to 24 can send in entries. 
  • Votes from fake Facebook profiles that have been created to increase vote tallies will not be counted. We have a team of social media experts observing and evaluating each vote that comes in.
Terms and conditions of the competition:
  • Entrants must send entries as required in the contest announcement and in accordance with the theme in order to be eligible.
  • Entries received after the deadline set forth in the contest announcement are ineligible. The Global Fund for Children (GFC) will not consider incomplete or off-topic entries.
  • Multiple entries are not allowed. You may send in one photograph and/or one video. 
  • Each submitted photograph must include a maximum 50-word description of the issue you are focusing on and how it is portrayed in your photograph. 
  • Each submitted video must not exceed 1 minute in length. 
  • By submitting materials to GFC, you represent and warrant that the materials do not infringe any copyright, trademark, property rights, rights of privacy or publicity of any person, or any other right of any third party and that you have the full and unrestricted right to transfer the materials to GFC free and clear of any claims or encumbrances.
  • GFC reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to alter any contest rules at any time. 
  • By entering the contest, you conclusively are deemed to have agreed to be bound by these contest rules and terms and conditions as well as by any rules specific to such contest. This is an irrevocable condition of entry.
