Education is vital to the New Zealand Aid Programme's mission of supporting sustainable development in order to reduce poverty and contribute to a more secure, equitable and prosperous world. Scholarships are available to citizens from selected developing countries to undertake vocational training or tertiary level study in their home country, in New Zealand, or in the Pacific region.

These scholarships enhance the skills, training and knowledge of individuals, and build their capacity to contribute to the sustainable development of key areas in their home country. Scholarship information for the 2013 intake is now available.

The priorities for support often include agriculture, renewable energy, fisheries, disaster risk management, and other areas related to natural resources and environment.

Call For Proposal 2013 - The Swedish Research Links Program

The Swedish Research Links Program offers International Collaborative Research Grants, aiming to support research cooperation between Swedish scientists and scientists within selected low-income to middle-income countries.

The long-term aim of the program is to contribute to mutual scientific and socioeconomic development of the countries involved through support for collaborative research projects of high scientific quality and mutual relevance. The program is open to researchers in basic and applied research within all academic disciplines.

In brief, the program seeks to fulfil the following objectives:
§ To support establishment of new research ties
§ To support collaborative research of high quality and mutual concern
§ To support research which addresses global challenges that disproportionally affect low-and middle-income countries and their most vulnerable people.
§ To support research of relevance for an equitable and sustainable development.

Eligible countries 2013; Sweden and the following countries:
§ Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iran, Rep. Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam
§ Middle East and North Africa (MENA): Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestinian adm. areas, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen
§ Africa: Botswana, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia
§ Latin America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua
§ Europe:  Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldavia, Russia (Limited to research cooperation within the areas of democracy and human rights), Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine

Applicants for International Collaborative Research Grants are individual researchers who also serve as project leaders and have the scientific responsibility for the project. The application must include at least two principal researchers: one affiliated to a university or research institution in Sweden and one affiliated to a university or research institution in a program country.

The applicants must be citizens or have permanent residence in an eligible country. If more than one program country outside Sweden is involved, each must be represented by a principal researcher. Applicants must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. The doctoral degree must have been awarded no later than the closing date for applications in this call. We deem your PhD to have been awarded when all requirements for the degree (e.g.compulsory courses, oral public defence and approved doctoral thesis) are completed Co-workers are those researchers with a doctoral degree that are most relevant to the implementation of the proposed project.

Grant Period:
International Collaborative Research Grants are awarded for a maximum of three years.

Training Program 2013 - APEC: Climate Center Training Program (Financial Support:Airfare, accommodation and per-diem will be supported by APCC).

APEC Climate Center (APCC) located in Busan, South Korea, aims at realizing the APEC vision of regional prosperity by providing climate information services and technical support for better regional planning and reduction of economic losses due to adverse climate conditions. APCC produces real-time operational climate prediction information based on a well-validated multi-model ensemble system, with contributions from over 17 institutes in the APEC region. APCC contributes to building capacity in prediction and monitoring of weather and climate for developing countries by making available costly climate data and information. Developing countries without the capacity to produce their own climate predictions are able to access optimized, high-cost global climate predictions produced by APCC. 

The APEC Climate Center (South Korea) will host a training program in August 2013 on "Producing High-Resolution Climate Information: Scientific Basis and Application." The program invites applications from young scientists at research institutes in developing countries who are working in climate science or a climate-related field. It also invites professionals at national and regional meteorological agencies who work in climate prediction and monitoring. 

The program will fund participants' airfare, accommodation, and perdiem.

Participants who successfully complete the training program will receive a certificate of completion. The program will be taught by a highly qualified and diverse team of scientists.

Call For Proposal 2013 - EU/FAO: FLEGT Programme

The EU FAO FLEGT programme will issue one call for proposals in the year 2012 and in 2013. Calls for proposals are opened to local stakeholders (government, civil society and private sector organizations) who play a role in the VPA implementation. Each project is limited to a maximum funding of 100 000 EUR.

Projects selected through the call for proposals mechanism will support initiatives that advance the VPA process and encourage active engagement of stakeholders. Projects will address targeted thematic areas that will have been identified in collaboration with the VPA country and the European Union.
This refers to the countries that have negotiated or are negotiating a Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) with the European Union. Under this definition, the list of 14 eligible countries in this call for proposals is as follows:

Gant Program 2013 - TOYOTA Foundation: Target Countries - Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam

Dynamic changes have transformed many, if not all, countries in Asia. A number of countries in the region have become more prosperous. These countries will soon share similar challenges with Japan. As equals, Japan and these countries need to create a new style of cooperation. Benefit from mutual learning gets larger than ever before.

Request For Proposal 2013 - Open Society Foundations

The Open Society Foundations’ Youth Initiative requests proposals for up to $10,000 in funding to develop and curate thematic pages on the new global youth portal and community at youthpolicy.org.
The site aims to consolidate knowledge and information on youth policies across the international sector, ranging from analysis and formulation to implementation and evaluation.
