Closing Date: April 30,2012.

IDRC invites applications for its 2012-2013 Small Grants for Innovative Research and Knowledge-Sharing. Provided through our Canadian Partnerships program, these grants support research, knowledge-building, and knowledge-sharing projects. They also fund events and small dissemination activities and products. These grants are open to local, regional, national, and international organizations incorporated and headquartered in Canada, that produce or share knowledge for development. Individuals may not apply. Organizations new to IDRC are encouraged to apply.

The primary considerations in selecting projects will be the scientific merit of the concept note and its potential for development impact, including capacity building. However, the selection of projects may also be influenced by operational considerations, e.g. Canadian law; knowledge of research settings; ability to monitor activities; conditions that may make it difficult, costly, dangerous or onerous for IDRC to carry out its objectives, or exercise proper stewardship of its resources.
a. Applicant organizations are considered to be those that have legal corporate registration in Canada. IDRC enters into agreement with legal entities only. The requesting institution, therefore, must be incorporated in Canada and headquartered in Canada (NB: Supporting documents will be requested should the application be successful).
b. The forms must be used and all relevant categories within the form must be completed and clearly written, with all required accompanying documents attached.
c. The proposed duration must be no more than 18 months.  The start date may be no later than January 1, 2013 and all projects, including submission of reports, must be completed by March 31, 2014.
d. The time available for review and start-up (e.g., obtaining visas) must be reasonable.
e. The budget must be completed using the form provided.  It should be realistic, within CP-set limits, and include clear budget notes.
f. The lead organization carrying out the activities may not hold an active grant from any part of IDRC (of over $60,000 and extending beyond nine months after this application deadline).
