Grant Program 2014 - IBA: Indonesia Biorisk Management Enhancement Grant (BMEG) Program

The Indonesian Biorisk Association (IBA) is pleased to partner with the U.S. Department of State Biosecurity Engagement Program (BEP) to support the Indonesia Biorisk Management Enhancement Grant (BMEG) Program.

The BMEG Program goal is to provide financial assistance for biosecurity and biosafety enhancements, such as laboratory security upgrades and biorisk management training, at biocontainment facilities in Indonesia. Individuals from public and private sector biocontainment facilities in Indonesia, including animal facilities, research facilities, diagnostic laboratories and hospitals are encouraged to apply.

The grants will be administered by CRDF Global, an independent non-profit organization that promotes international scientific and technical collaboration. 
The applications will be evaluated on:
§  Biosecurity / Biosafety Impact
§  Quality and Feasibility of the Project 
§  Sustainability Potential  
§  Budget Relevance
§  Clarity and Completeness of Application


BEP, IBA and CRDF Global will evaluate the applications and inform each applicant whether their proposal was selected for funding. Each selected application will be awarded a maximum of USD 15,000 for a maximum of 6 months of work with the potential for extension under certain circumstances.

Grant Program 2014 - TOYOTA Foundation: International Grant Program (Indonesia, Japan , Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam)

This is the second year of our pilot program, which supports projects whose focus are on reviewing current challenges and issues shared among Japan and other Asian countries, and proposing policy recommendations. The primary focus of the program is on selected countries in South-east Asia and Japan. The program pays special attention on drawing lessons from existing practices made by local communities, especially in terms of following points: i) how local communities address the challenges and find solutions; ii) the role of various stakeholders in those processes; and iii) policy frameworks and social settings to support such efforts.

Through this program, we try to build a new form of partnership among Japan and other Asian countries, based on empathy shared among peers who face common challenges, instead of conventional ones such as donor / recipient relationships.

Thematic Areas:
1.    Aging Society
§  Comparing the ideas and practices of care in community
§  Promoting participation of elderly at local community
2.    Multicultural Society
§  Good practices in social inclusion of migrants, especially those with children
§  Vitalization of local community by residents with various cultural backgrounds
3.    Renewable energy practices for sustainable community development
§  National and sub-national analysis of the policy issue
§  Policy frameworks related to the issue
§  Analysis and evaluation of existing practices (both good and failed ones– preferred to be an analysis of various cases/contexts)

Project Duration:
The duration of projects is limited to one year, without any extension. All projects need to start on 1st November, 2014 and finish all activities by 31st October, 2015

Total Funding:
a.    Focusing in one of the target countries                                            : JPY 3,000,000
b.    Focusing more than two countries with comparative nature             : JPY 6,000,000

Please note that the maximum amount of funding is based on the number of target countries,not number of all countries covered in the project.

Eligibility:
§  Potential applicants can be a team or a network of members from various backgrounds, with a proven record of delivering results in one of the thematic areas. Priority is given to habitats in these five target countries-Indonesia, Japan, PhilippinesThailand, and Vietnam.
§  Applicants must have experience in the thematic areas concerning the target countries.
§  Applicants have available human network of various stakeholders (policy makers, practitioners, researchers, local communities) in the thematic areas concerning the target countries.
§  Applicants must have experience in impacting the stakeholders.

§  Applicants must have strong communication skills

Grant Program 2014 - BBVA Foundation: Climate Change and Development Cooperation

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge and Culture Awards are intended to recognize basic research and creative work of excellence, as embedded in theoretical advances, models and fundamental perspectives for an improved understanding of the natural, social and artificial or technological worlds, technological innovations and developments, and the creation of outstanding works or new artistic or interpretative styles in contemporary classical music. Awards also go to significant achievements that advance our understanding or deliver material progress with regard to two key challenges of the global society of the 21st century: climate change and development cooperation.

Awards will be granted in eight prize categories, spanning three domains. First, scientific and technological research in the areas of Basic Sciences, Biomedicine, Ecology and Conservation Biology, Information and Communication Technologies, and Economics, Finance and Management. Second, the creation, direction or performance of works of contemporary classical music. Third, scientific research and/or projects that represent significant advances in two core concerns of the 21st century: climate change and development cooperation.

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge and Culture Awards will consist of €400,000.

Eligibility criteria:
§  Candidates shall be one or more natural persons of any nationality, without limitation of number in the case of convergent contributions to a given advance, whether due to a formal collaboration (with the candidate(s) belonging to one or more groups) or parallel working.
§  In categories Climate change and Development cooperation, entries are also open to agencies and organizations in the public or private sector (not-for-profit in the latter case) under the conditions stipulated in the preceding paragraph, providing their institutional or organizational purpose is to undertake activities relating to climate change or development cooperation.
§  Awards may not be granted posthumously.
